What Happens At A Kambo Session?

About 15 minutes before the medicine is applied, you will drink about 1.5-2 liters of water. Kambo is applied to the skin generally on the shoulders, however, working with the energy lines in the body, such as Chinese medicine, can open up other energetic blockages. We work all around the body, depending on the person. A small stick is used to burn the first layer of skin with a number of points, completely dependent on the person. Usually, for a first treatment, one should expect to receive 3-5 points. However, some require less and some more. Often, the marks go away in about 1-6 months, depending on how healthy the body is. We find later sessions healing quicker than previous ones because the body is running more optimally.

The effects are felt within 10-15 seconds, with a slight temperature rise and energetic rush in the crown. Focus on your breath and breathe deeply and slowly. Try to analyze what sensations are happening. With the awareness of the heartbeat rising, it will be time to relax, focus on the breath and begin to drink more water. Surrender to the process, allow yourself to find your breath, meditate and quiet the mind. Your heart rate will begin to rise for a couple of minutes, and you will have a lot of sensation and some swelling (as it’s flushing the system out) in the throat and lymph nodes. You will feel a slight discomfort in your stomach while bile is ejected into your stomach, from the liver and gallbladder. Decades of toxins are collected, and soon the purging will begin helping to ease the discomfort. Part of the effects you feel are the Kambo and the other half are from the toxins your body is getting rid of. You manifest this discomfort every day, but don’t realize it. Kambo gives us the gift of opening the body, cleansing desensitization. Lots of anger and sadness come out during a kambo session. It is normal to cry or yell if you feel called.

You will drink more water, relax, and breathe. The water works as a pump to funnel out the toxins that are being pushed into the stomach from the gallbladder, liver, kidneys and pancreas. The more you drink and breathe, the smoother it will be. The energetic pressure and temperature will soon reduce while the process is nearing resolution. The entire process will usually take approximately 30-45 minutes, varying from each individual. About 10-15 minutes of that can be intense while deep purging is happening. Energy pulses throughout the body and the hands, with a sense of electricity circulating in each and every cell. Kambo gets easier the cleaner your body gets, and it happens quickly; typically in a few sessions.

Some cases require a longer session and the recovery can be longer. These are rare cases. Even people with serious illnesses tend to recover quickly. Perhaps 95% of people are fine to drive home within 1-2 hours, they may feel a little “off” throughout the day, but the following day, they feel great. So, even people with severe health issues shouldn’t be weary. Rarely do people experience headaches the following day.

The frog is native to the Amazon basin and can be found in the rainforest regions of Northern Brazil. Eastern Peru, southeastern Columbia, and parts of Venezuela, Bolivia, and the Guianas. It involves the application of the venomous secretion of the Phyllomedusa bicolor (the giant leaf or monkey frog) to burns created on the skin.

Complementary Medicines

Hapé is a powerful, sacred tobacco snuff made by the indigenous tribes of the Amazon and used as a part of important medicinal rituals. There are many types and blends of Rapé, all with different herbs in it. The main component, however, is always tobacco of a variety called Nicotiana Rustica, which contains high levels of nicotine.

Due to the stimulating effects of nicotine, Rapé has an uplifting effect. To indigenous cultures, tobacco is a sacred plant known to cleanse both individuals and ceremonial spaces and is said to be a Grandfather medicine, full of ancient wisdom and the ability to carry our powers to Creator / Great Spirit / God / Goddess.

Sananga is made from the roots and bark of the Tabernaemontana undulata shrub, a “milkwood” species in the family Apocynaceae, and comes directly from the Amazonian tribes.

This sacred and potent medicine is used for healing physical and spiritual ailments, by clearing the mind and energies and gaining a complete new way of perception and focus. This Sananga is infused with intentions of absolute clarity and healing for the eyes as well as the inner sight, intuitive guidance, and opening up of the third eye.

Cacao is an abundant superfood with numerous medicinal properties, which it only keeps in its raw form.

Cacao ceremonies are a unique and beautiful experience, inspiring love, freedom, growth and expansion through the magic of raw cacao. In the Caribbean, there are huge forests of cacao surrounding us, with wild animals, monkeys, & birds - everything is fully alive.

Mother Earth is alive in her full glory, giving us her love and abundance in all ways possible. One of mother earth’s precious gifts to us is the Cacao!

Integration and Medicines post-Kambo

After the Kambo session is complete, and the medicine removed, you will most likely choose to lie down and rest. A comfortable place with blankets and pillows is created to ensure proper rest and integration. Grace will apply a resin called Dragon’s Blood to the burn sites to close the gates and keep them from getting infected. It is an antiseptic, and will keep the wounds cleaned until they heal. Once the wound fully heals, the Dragon’s Blood will remove itself from the skin.

Drink a lot of electrolytes and stay hydrated. Trace minerals are one recommended brand, or adding ¼ teaspoon of salt and a little honey to water is advised.

Trace Mineral Drops

At Detox with Grace, Grace provides comprehensive aftercare following your detoxification sessions with Kambo. First, Grace provides ConcenTrace® Trace Mineral Drops, an all natural mineral concentrate. It’s impossible to overestimate the importance of minerals and trace minerals for the human body. They are the catalysts for all the vitamins and other nutrients your body uses for developing and maintaining good health. Replenishing the lost minerals from drinking enough water for an effective purge and hydrating with minerals and enough water post detox session is essential for healthy rebalancing of your energy levels and preventing muscle cramps.

Activated Charcoal

Next, Grace offers activated charcoal (AC) in order to provide a boost to your elimination system by gently and safely continuing to remove any lingering toxins. AC helps naturally detox the body because it absorbs toxins in the body and removes them from the digestive tract.

Jiaogulan (Gynostemma pentaphyllum) has been widely used as a herbal tea, dietary supplement, and vegetable in Asian countries. This powerful and naturally sweet tasting tea has been shown to promote ant-cancer and antifungal effects. Jiaogulan helps remove residual toxins and biofilm as well.

Receiving Folk Medicine Responsibly

Despite the intense physical symptoms that Kambo produces, it is quite safe when administered by an experienced practitioner. As with even the safest medicines, there are some contraindications. Those with heart conditions, Addison’s disease, receiving chemotherapy or individuals in very poor health may not tolerate the treatment very well.

Further medical contraindications include individuals with organ transplant, and those with aneurysms, stroke or brain hemorrhage. Caution is practiced for women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or menstruating at the time of Kambo treatment.

However, Kambo seems to be quite helpful for most people, regardless of their complaints.

Certain medicines are used with Kambo treatments to enhance and further the experience. The word “medicine” here is used in a traditional sense as in “folk medicine” and at no point is intended to be taken as medical advice.
